Getting your meter data from AGL

Verified 26 September 2026

You can request your meter data file from AGL using its online form. The file comes back by email. Two of the choices on that form are easy to get wrong, so we point them out below.

The steps

  1. Open AGL's metering data request page and use the single metering data request form. The multiple request option is a spreadsheet for people asking about lots of properties.
  2. You need to be the authorised contact on the account. If you are not, you also need to email AGL a consent form signed by the account holder. The link is on the same page.
  3. Have your electricity bill in front of you. The form asks for your account number and the number labelled NMI on your bill, plus your name, date of birth, phone number, address and email.
  4. Set the dates to cover the last 12 months.
  5. Under data type, choose Interval. Not Accumulative.
  6. Under Summary or Detailed, choose Detailed, or Summary and Detailed if you want both. Detailed is your meter data file (NEM12). It records your use in short blocks, such as every 30 minutes or every 5 minutes. We can read either. A Summary on its own is only totals, and we can't use it.
  7. For delivery, choose Email. AGL only sends the detailed file by email.

What to watch for

When the file arrives

Open your PowerLens report and choose Add meter data, free. Upload the file as it arrived, without opening and saving it in Excel first. No report yet? Start with your bill.

If our upload can't read the file, it will say so. What a good file looks like.

If it does not arrive, or you would rather not wait

Your electricity network holds the same data. In some states you can register on its website and download the file yourself instead of waiting for a request. Your network is the same whoever bills you. Find your network.
