Getting your meter data from Origin Energy

Verified 26 September 2026

Origin's meter data request page tells home customers to phone if they want their data in "the industry prescribed file format". Origin describes that as the file government comparison websites use. It is your meter data file (NEM12), the one we need.

The steps

  1. Open Origin's meter data request page first. The note about phoning is near the top, so you can quote it on the call.
  2. Call Origin on 13 24 61.
  3. Ask for your meter data file (NEM12). If that gets a blank response, use Origin's own words: "the industry prescribed file format", the file you would upload to a government comparison website.
  4. Ask for the last 12 months. Have your account number and the number labelled NMI on your electricity bill in front of you.
  5. Have it sent to you by email.

What to watch for

When the file arrives

Open your PowerLens report and choose Add meter data, free. Upload the file as it arrived, without opening and saving it in Excel first. No report yet? Start with your bill.

What a good file looks like, and what to do if Origin sends you something we cannot read.

If you would rather not phone

Your electricity network holds the same data. In Victoria and South Australia you can register on your network's website and download the file yourself instead of waiting for a request. Your network is the same whoever bills you. Find your network.
